As you probably figured out, this is another post you won't be able read. It's a short story which was a runner-up for Gustav Reuss Prize, a major science-fiction contest in Slovakia. Prízrak, or Spectre, tells the story of a censor who finds his match in young rebellious writer. In authoritarian regime, it might be the censor who wins, but as far as the human nature is concerned, well, let's just say there are different kinds of spectres...

After those few weeks of study we learned much but all the amount of information failed to conceal one very unpleasant fact: it's all just the theory. The nearest we came to real thing was dipping urinalysis dipsticks into the tea. Since our first clinical placement is in two weeks time, we could finally grab some latex gloves, sharps and we could poke something, ourselves at least. Students, hungry for some real action, got blood pressure cuffs (sphygmomanometers, say it three times in a row!) and stethoscopes. I'm a proud owner of my own stethoscope, colour of royal blue. And that's about all I can be proud of.

My short story, Matej the Godchild of Grim Reaper, is published in Slovak science fiction, fantasy and pop-culture magazine Fantázia. Unfortunately (no surprise here), it's not available in English. Maybe you are familiar with the story of a "miraculous" healer who befriended the Grim Reaper who became a Godmother (yes, in most Slavic countries the Death is a female) of his son. This story follows the life of this child after his father's death.

Well, this is another story you won't enjoy if you don't speak Slovak. It is very simple but a very nice story about an old lady who used to be a tram driver and now, in her seventies, she just wants to drive the tram again. And there are no obstacles that can stop a very determined and stubborn old lady. Maybe one day I can find someone who will be able to translate all this stuff to English. Until then, I can just say again: Sorry, this post is not available in English...

Not that you would enjoy that but - there was an interview with me published in SME Slovak newspaper and also on the blog of Aneta "Riddick" Čižmáriková, a well-known and respected science fiction fan. The interview is in Slovak so you won't be able to enjoy it. So just congratulate me!
